Cadet Drill Instructor Course
- Length of course: 2 days:
- Numbers of courses per year: 1
- Max number of cadets per course: 15
Overview:
This course is aimed at Cadet NCO’s who have good practical ability to perform drill, and teach them how to Teach Drill to Cadets. It is a vital role filling an important gap on many units where an Adult SNCO is not available to teach the cadets, although this should not in itself be used to stop cadets who have an interest in filling the role on units who have Adult staff to fulfil the function.
Pre-requisites:
- MUST have previously attended and passed the JNCO course.
- Ideally have been an NCO for a minimum of six months
- Must have an ability to perform drill to a high standard, which will be personally assessed by the Course Leader on arrival.
- Have a high standard of dress and turnout.
Course syllabus:
- Cadets will be "refreshed" on how drill movements SHOULD be performed.
- The course will be introduced to the "preferred method of instruction" as used at RAF recruit training(Non-Commissioned and Officer intake).
- The candidates will be taught and ultimately assessed on their ability to teach both a Static and moving drill Mutual.
Structure:
Although SOME of the work can and is done in the classroom, the course spends MUCH of the time available performing, and practicing drill movements (usually outdoors), and is very physically demanding.
The course aims to provide feedback to Unit commanders on the Course Staff’s impressions of the candidate over the complete spectrum of events, activities, and learning sessions over the whole weekend, culminating with a series of short, but hopefully useful comments on the Course Staff’s thoughts on the candidate’s usefulness or otherwise as a Drill Instructor.
