The Course starts in earnest on the Friday evening, with two hours of work. Saturday begins with an early start and a full program of classroom sessions, interspersed with practical drill where they will start off by performing basic drill movements, progressing on to taking charge of small squads. The course runs into Saturday evening, with some time to relax, before finishing the course on Sunday morning, prior to "graduating" on the final parade on Sunday Afternoon.

The course aims to provide feedback to Unit commanders on the Course Staff’s impressions of the candidate over the complete spectrum of events, activities, and learning sessions over the whole weekend, culminating with a series of short, but hopefully useful comments on the Course Staff’s thoughts on the candidate’s usefulness or otherwise as a potential JNCO.
